Knee Joint Aspiration and Injection for HBPC Providers Online Course
Description

Knee joint aspiration is a procedure that removes excess fluid from the joint, while injection delivers medication to relieve pain. This is a commonly performed medical procedure among elderly patients who are at a higher risk for arthritis. Home-based primary care providers can help these patients and their caregivers by performing this procedure during a home visit vs. sending the patient to an in-patient facility. 


 

Objectives

  1. Prepare the equipment needed to perform a knee joint aspiration and injection procedure.

  2. Aspirate and inject medication into the affected knee.

  3. Identify contraindications for and complications of knee joint aspiration and injection procedures.

  4. Apply appropriate coding and documentation practices for performing a knee joint aspiration and injection procedure.

In order to earn credit for participation in this activity, the learner must complete a 5-question post-test with a passing score of 80% or better with unlimited attempts.
Intended Audience
This online course is intended for home-based primary care providers with patients who need knee joint aspiration and medication injection for pain.
