Dementia and Neuropsychiatric Disturbances in HBPC Online Course
Description
HBPC providers often deliver primary care services to patients with various stages of dementia. These patients often experience neuropsychiatric disturbances, making delivery of HBPC services challenging.
Objectives
In this course, you will learn strategies to effectively treat patients with dementia and neuropsychiatric disturbances and support their families and caregivers. Upon completion, you will be able to do the following:
  1. Discuss the stages and types of dementia, including their characteristic symptoms and anatomical changes.
  2. Identify appropriate treatment goals for homebound or home-limited patients with dementia and neuropsychiatric disturbances.
  3. Identify potential triggers for neuropsychiatric disturbances, such as underlying medical conditions or environmental issues.
  4. Describe pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment approaches at home for patients with dementia and neuropsychiatric disturbances.
  5. Recognize the impact of dementia on the patients and their families and caregivers.
Estimated Time to Complete
15 minutes
In order to earn credit for participation in this activity, the learner must complete a 5-question post-test with a passing score of 80% or better with unlimited attempts.
Intended Audience
This course is intended for all primary care providers working with homebound patients with dementia, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health professionals.
